Race Season Preview: 2024

Below we look at the major championship schedules for 2024. Whether you are a circuit enthusiast or a road racing die-hard, its covered below.

Yes, some of the major racing calendars are already underway - WSBK, MotoAmerica and FSBK have already had their first outings of the season: but really 19th April represents the start of everything - the BSB kicks off in Navarra, the WSBK returns at Assen, MotoAmerica rolls into Atlanta and Le Mans hosts the EWC. With each championship comes intriguing storylines and sub-plots.

BSB

Above: Glenn Irwin will be aiming to go one better this year, as he aims for the BSB title.

This year the BSB has a different flavour to it, as we get things started in Spain at the Navarra race circuit for round 1.

Key storylines for the season;

Defending champion Tommy Bridewell has moved from the PBM Ducati team to the factory Honda, how will he get on with the blade? It's not been anywhere near the championship in recent years - will 2024 be different?

Glenn Irwin continues with the PBM Ducati team - as a one bike team this season, the Ducati was the best bike on the grid in 2023 and if the start of the WSBK season is anything to go off - the bike still looks strong (Ducati already having claimed victories with Nicolo Bulega and Alvaro Bautista in WorldSBK, not to mention Josh Herrin's dominance of the Daytona 200 on the Ducati V2).

Elsewhere there's intrigue around the return of Rory Skinner, following his foray into Moto2 last season, Josh Brookes on the FHO factory BMW and Charlie Nesbitt after his impressive 2023.

WSBK

Above: Alex Lowes looks to build on his strong start to the 2024 season.

We have already seen 2 rounds of the 2024 WorldSBK calendar, and after some remarkable racing at both Philip Island and Catalunya - we head to Assen for the third instalment of the season.

Key storylines for the season;

It was all change for the championship this year with 2 of the 'big 3' moving to new teams: Toprak Razgatlıoğlu moved from Yamaha to BMW, while 6-time WorldSBK champion Jonathan Rea hopped from his factory Kawasaki to the Yamaha Factory Team. This meant a new team-mate for RST factory rider Alex Lowes, now pairing with Italian star Axel Bassani on the KRT bike.

Another key point was the promotion of Nicolo Bulega from the Aruba Ducati Supersport bike in 2023, to the factory superbike team alongside Alvaro Bautista.

After two eventful weekends in Philip Island and Catalunya - all eyes will turn to Assen for a no doubt action-packed weekend.

Key storylines for the season;

For the 2024 MotoAmerica season, everyone will be chasing defending champion Josh Herrin in the superbike class - especially after he dominated the Daytona 200 in February on his WARHORSE Ducati.

For RST-sponsored Team Hammer, they will hope that their Suzuki GXS-R will be able to compete at the front of the grid. The rider line-up has been tweaked this year with Richie Escalante being joined on the Superbikes by 2-time Daytona champion and former BSB rider Brandon Paasch.
